The Green Metro Line, from Martim Moniz to Anjos, tempts with cheap rooms – but parts of Intendente and Mouraria carry a rundown feel, visible homelessness, and rising petty crime. Buyer beware!
Steer clear of Roma and the far-flung northeastern suburbs too. Cheap? Sure. But you're signing up for 40-minute commutes to reach anything worth seeing.
Thinking of saving money south of the Tagus, in Almada or Cacilhas? The novelty of that scenic ferry ride wears off fast once you're doing it every single day.
Simple rule: don't stray further north than Campo Pequeno, or further west than the IP7 expressway!
